What inspired her to start:
I was at work one day and a co-worker/friend of mine came in with a really nice set of nails and I just really got hooked onto the whole NailArt world. I started buying everything - nail charms, nail wraps, nail polish...everything. After a while, I noticed that a lot of the designs were just cheesy with colorful flowers and things that didn't really resonate with my personal style. So I thought, well I'm a graphic designer—why don't I try to start something of my own, and I did. I started off with just 5 designs of those nail polish wraps and failed horribly! They didn't sell at all. I sat there, felt upset and defeated for about a month. I put quite a bit of money into it. That kind of turned into anger and determination (laughs). I wanted something that's a little bit more versatile, more customizable and a little affordable. So then I came across clear nail wraps. I didn't like the fact that they were covering the entire nail. With a little bit of research, I finally found the perfect formula and I just went with it. Why not...might as well just try again and not just give up after the first time. It's definitely been a huge difference from the first collection. Now I'm no longer selling the wraps, I'm just doing the decals. With a full time corporate job, you need to feed your creativity somehow. This has definitely kept me busy on the side.
Her advice to you:
Keep trying. Like myself, don't give up if you fail once, a second or even third time—just keep trying. If it's a certain avenue that doesn't work out, then keep trying different roads.
P.S. Did you know she just dropped her first collab, paying homage to her "first nail friend" in the industry, celeb nail artist @MissHandly? They are two limited edition sets available here.
