What inspired her to start:

Well, I first started DJing because my brother was a DJ, so he taught me when he bought a set of turntables for the house. After a lot of blood, sweat and tears I started DJing with him. We were DJing a lot [together] in Downtown LA and in Hollywood, then I started getting booked a lot on my own - just because a lot of fashion brands wanted a girl DJ. And those same brands also asked me to model for them as well and I thought, "Wear clothes and get paid? Done." That led to me getting signed to an agency, and I started booking a bunch of commercials for a while. And then during that time one of the auditions I went out for was for Disney's Maker Studios who produces the show that I host now, "The Fashion Statement." Luckily they ended up liking me and now we've had three exhilarating years together. Everything that I've done has just been an organic and natural progressive step forward; I never really went into this whole creative industry with a set career. Every time an opportunity knocks, I'm completely grateful that I have the ability to pursue each one to the best of my ability. I'm a big workaholic, so I just hunker down and work really hard until something else pops up that'll take me in a different direction.

Her advice to you:

You ALWAYS have to be persistent. Persistent, consistent and do not let any drawbacks define you. A lot of times, especially in the creative world, it's very easy to be disheartened because you can get overwhelmed or distracted. It's not a 9-5 where you're working constantly, getting a solid stable paycheck, and working your way up the corporate ladder-- that lifestyle is very regimented and very structured. With creatives, there's very little to no structure (especially when you're starting out). You can't let that discourage you from working your hardest.

Sometimes a job may not happen, or whatever field you're working in may not be doing well at that time; you have to make sure that doesn't get to you on a personal level. Which is hard because when you're working for yourself you aren't afforded a middle man to guard you from criticisms, rejection, etc. It's your work on the line, and it's so easy to let that get to your head. Just keep working and pushing through because that work ethic will eventually get you to a place you're happy with and you'll just keep moving forward. I think it applies to any industry but specifically the creative side, you don't have a boss or company or superiors to rely on-- all your work is coming from [within] you and you're on your own.
